Professional Experience

Since being called to the Ontario bar in 1996, Jaki has practised as litigation counsel in both civil and criminal defence. She has appeared before all levels of Ontario courts including the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal. She has also represented clients before professional bodies including the Canadian Chiropractic College and the Ontario Dance Teachers Associations.


Jaki Freeman has successfully defended all manner of criminal charges ranging from first degree murder and attempted murder, to impaired driving and sexual assaults, to complex fraud cases. She has also successfully represented accused charged with all manner of drug offences including representing an accused in one of Canada's largest heroin importing cases.


Jaki Freeman has brought her experience and advocacy skills to bear as a member of many boards including the Elizabeth Fry Society (Vice President from 2003-2004) and the Ontario Bar Association Criminal Justice Executive (since 2009). She has given many talks to community groups and in December, 2010, she was honoured to be a guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Criminal Lawyers Association, Ontario's largest group of criminal defence lawyers. Her legal writings have been published in the magazines, For the Defence and The Criminal Justice Newsletter.

    Graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School. Jaki earned several awards, in the area of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

    Jaki continued her academic career earning a Masters of Laws, specializing in criminal justice
